Hunting Types

We offer fully guided hunts (2 hunters/guide) for archery/primitive arms season; quality elk rifle season; and the combination mule deer/elk seasons on premium private land in Southwestern Colorado.

For elk, the types of hunting methods include: bugling during the rut (archery/primitive arms & quality rifle seasons); spot and stalk; and stand hunting over water holes and food plots.

For mule deer, principal hunting methods include spot and stalk, and stand hunting over water holes, food plots, and the La Plata River and Cherry Creek drainages.

Our guides are seasoned professionals with considerable experience in this region of Colorado and with the hunting techniques employed. We do not guarantee the harvest of a trophy bull or buck and you should be skeptical of any fair-chase outfitter that does. We cannot control the weather conditions, a hunter’s proficiency and preparation, or the phase of the moon. Last year’s dry conditions and heat were challenging. Still, several of our hunters harvested, or had an opportunity to harvest, several quality bulls or mule deer bucks.

We are confident that we have some of the best private land for mule deer and elk in southwestern Colorado and that our efforts (pre-season scouting, stand location, maintenance of food plots and water holes) will produce an excellent hunting experience. I encourage you to review the photos of several of the animals harvested over the past several years on our ranches and contact a number of the references provided for a first-hand account of what you should expect when you book a hunt with Nate Hicks.
